Meet Yezenia Manke
Originally from California, Yezenia Manke relocated to Dorado, Puerto Rico with her husband and four kids. She is currently leading efforts as an educational entrepreneur, collaborating with a top development firm to assemble a team of architects, school designers, and thought leaders to bring an international school to Fajardo, PR.
Yezenia also serves as the Board President of the Lovely Little Einsteins Foundation, a non-profit organization in Puerto Rico dedicated to supporting families through preschools and early childhood intervention programs. She drives donor partnerships, organizational operations, and business development.
Since 2019, Puerto Rico has been her home, where she enjoys the island’s beauty and advocates for youth and better education practices in communities. Outside of work, Yezenia loves spending time with her four children, listening to podcasts, working out, savoring Puerto Rican iced lattes, and exploring creative endeavors.

Yezenia’s Favorite Places to Travel to
Italy is Yezenia’s favorite place to travel because of its amazing culture, beautiful scenery, delicious food, and incredible history. In Italy, there is so much to do throughout the year, like exploring ancient ruins in Rome, checking out the art in Florence, or just chilling on the Amalfi Coast or in Tuscany. In the winter, you can even hit the slopes in the Italian Alps. Plus, Italy’s lively cities, charming countryside, and warm weather make it a great destination. Yezenia asks, “Is there anything better than pasta and Lake Como? I think not!”
Yezenia’s Favorite Travel Tips
Yezenia recommends to always have a plan, but don’t be afraid to go off the beaten path and try new experiences that might be outside your comfort zone. Bring bug spray or essential oils to keep bugs at bay, stash a few extra band-aids in your bag, and pack some gallon-sized zip-lock bags with napkins – you never know when you might need them!
Q&A GUEST POST with Yezenia Manke: Puerto Rico

Q: Why is it so great to travel to Puerto Rico?
A: No passport required, stunning natural beauty, exceptional public beaches, the compact island is easily navigable, incredibly safe, and a very family-friendly culture. The island vibe is so refreshing!
Q: What’s the best time of year to visit Puerto Rico? Months to avoid?
A: The best time to visit Puerto Rico is generally during the dry season, which spans from mid-December to mid-April. Typically there is lower humidity and a lower chance of rain during these months.
Avoid coming during hurricane season: September and October. Bear in mind that not every year brings significant storms, these months have a higher risk of bad weather, which will disrupt travel plans and activities.

Q: What should you not forget to pack when visiting Puerto Rico?
A: Don’t forget sunscreen and rash guards for you and the entire family! Oh, and bug spray!
Q: What is the best airport to fly in/out of? Any specific airport tips?
A: Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) is the best airport to fly into. Taxis are way easier than Uber and very reliable but most only want to deal with cash!
Q: Once you arrive at the airport, is it best to rent a car or take a taxi to your destination? How is public transportation? Are rideshare services available?
A: Unless you plan on staying put at a single hotel or resort for your entire vacation, renting a car is the way to go. At SJU airport, you’ll find a large rental car facility with all the major players like Avis and Enterprise—it’s a breeze to navigate. While Ubers are available, they can be trickier to come by outside the metro area. I’d steer clear of public transportation.

Q: What’s the best town/area(s) to stay in Puerto Rico? Any specific hotel or resort recommendations?
A: Here are my top recommendations:
Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve: Located in Dorado, this resort offers a secluded and luxurious experience with stunning beachfront views, golf courses, spa facilities, and upscale dining options. Amazing for families but can be costly. You can sometimes find Airbnb homes or condos within this community.
St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort: Situated in Rio Grande, this resort combines elegance with natural beauty, featuring a private beach, golf course, tennis courts, and lavish accommodations.
The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan: This beachfront resort in Isla Verde offers a sophisticated ambiance, along with beach access, a casino, multiple dining options, and luxurious spa treatments.
Condado Vanderbilt Hotel: Nestled in the vibrant Condado district of San Juan, this historic hotel boasts oceanfront views, luxurious rooms and suites, a spa, several swimming pools, and fine dining experiences.
Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort: Located in Rio Grande, this expansive resort offers beachfront access, a golf course, multiple swimming pools, tennis courts, restaurants, and a relaxing spa.
These resorts cater to travelers seeking a blend of luxury, relaxation, and top-notch amenities in beautiful Puerto Rican settings.

Q: Where can you find the best beaches in Puerto Rico?
A: I haven’t even begun to explore what is further than my own backyard! Dorado, PR has some amazing and tranquil beaches on the resort but for tips on others to explore, follow @Puertoricogram on Instagram! I promise they’re a great resource.

Q: What are some must-do activities or places to visit while in Puerto Rico?
A: Enjoying leisure time by the pool and beach is a must! Also, indulge in delicious seafood or Puerto Rican cuisine like mofongo. Take a boat ride to Fajardo, explore the historic charm of Old San Juan – you’ll see some iconic sights, and immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature!
Q: Is Puerto Rico a kid-friendly travel destination? What are the best areas to explore or things to do with kids in Puerto Rico?
A: Definitely! Puerto Rico is incredibly welcoming to kids and families, making it one of the most kid-friendly destinations. With my four kids, we love engaging in a variety of natural activities such as surfing, swimming, collecting shells, and going on boat rides. Additionally, we have a blast at places like Toro Verde Adventure Park in San Juan, the Children’s Museum in Carolina, or exciting trampoline parks like Viking Arena!

Q: Tell me about the arts scene in Puerto Rico. Where are the best places to see live arts performances (music, dance, theater)?Â
A: For music and art, hit Old San Juan and Santurce!

La Respuesta (Santurce): This is a trendy spot for live music, hosting local bands and international artists. It’s a hub for indie music lovers and those who enjoy a dynamic nightlife.

Teatro Alejandro Tapia y Rivera: Located near the San Juan Cathedral, this historic theater is another excellent spot to catch live theater performances.
Festivals and Events
Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián: One of the biggest street festivals! Features live music, dance, and theater performances throughout Old San Juan. Beware! Street close down and traffic on this day is usually very busy. Plan accordingly!

Alcapurrias: Fried fritters made from green bananas and filled with meat or crab.
Cool Places to Eat:

Marmalade (Old San Juan): one of my favorite places! Their tasting menu is fantastic.
Jose Enrique (Santurce): Farm-to-table goodness with a modern twist on traditional dishes.
La Bombonera (Old San Juan): Historic café perfect for breakfast; their mallorcas are a must-try.
